The Beauty Of Mango Wood

Unlocking the rise of mango wood in interior design

Hello and welcome to another exciting edition of Furniture Digest by Impala Furniture , this week’s edition is a topic close to heart, something our clients are fond of and have developed an extra liking for. I’m talking about the good old Mango wood furniture.  Before we look at samples and it’s décor, let’s first define what Mango wood furniture is, for the newbies who are either looking to get a piece or into the interior design. From the  name it simply means produced from mango tree, the tree that produces our favorite sweet, juicy fruit.

Mango wood is categorized as a hardwood this basically means it is strong and durable making it just perfect for furniture.  Let’s get into reasons you should consider getting yourself a mango wood furniture for your space, well apart from the strong factor of its durability, which by the way also means that it does not wear out easily.  Another key point to note that will make you smile all the way is the money factor. I mean it’s always all about the money. Picture this, a durable wood that is budget friendly at the same time, sweet deal isn’t it?

It might sound too good to be true but here’s the reason why sustainable wood is cheap.  Mangos take an average of 10-15 years to grow and after it’s productivity it basically losses it’s value because it’s less productive in terms of harvesting the fruit itself. This means new trees are now planted in order to continue producing the fruits leaving the old unproductive ones for usage in making things like mango wood furniture.Â

Let’s talk about the original color of mango wood, for some it comes in different shades but naturally mango wood’s original color is a beautiful golden brown. The wood is usually discolored changing to different colors, you may be familiar with its yellow or pink shade or probably the black tint across its surface. If it’s unstained and only a clear wax is applied it appears dark. When stained it produces a rich deep brown color.

So back to why mango wood is a nice pick apart from it’s beautiful color in terms of appearance. Mango wood is easy to cut unlike it’s relatives in the hard wood family.  This makes it easy to work with even cutting the desired shape is easy.

Just like any other wood, learning how to care for any material is usually the game changer. For mango wood it wears out with frequent spillage so wipe any liquid on it immediately for proper maintenance.  Be very careful when cleaning your mango wood, in terms of harsh chemicals that could damage the finish, you definitely do not want your beautiful crafted piece looking like an item that just survived world war 1.

On that note, there is a way to keep it slaying by hydrating your furniture, regularly polishing your mango wood with furniture polish is the game changer. Good polish ensures its uniqueness remains and prevents it from cracking. You don’t want your favorite mango wood piece discolored right?it can all be ruined if left in exposure of direct sunlight, so you might be wary of placement when decorating your space and look into that.

Mango Wood Wardrobe

Mango wood is a perfect pick for interior designers. It adds warmth to those spaces thanks to its aesthetic character that makes it a perfect décor for any piece.  We are in a world of copying and going with trends and in a typical Kenyan household for example, tiles and traditional hardwood floors have taken over when it comes to flooring. To stand out why not add some of that mango wood, it’s a go big or go home world anyway and if you’re here it means you are taking interior design seriously and have a sense of taste in décor.  In some cases mango wood is used in flooring for its water resistance characteristics making it a perfect combo in your home or office.
